The Bookmark Guides are made up of eight highly trained local personnel, considered experts in their fields, operating in the Bookmark Biosphere, and comprising a collection of six Environmentally aware companies.

Incorporating Environmentally Sustainable Development, these companies offer products ranging from sightseeing tours and pure enjoyment of the local environment, to specialist activities.

These activities include Bird Watching, Four-Wheel-Drive adventuring, Dinghy Trips in the river's backwaters, secluded & relaxing Accommodation on the River Murray's edge and exploration of the clear night skies, with very comprehensive talks on Astronomy.

For approximately 18 months the Guides underwent an intensive training exercise which taught them all about the natural environment, concentrating on the flora and fauna and the ecology of the local area.

They also learned about the local history of the area, the Aboriginal culture and history of their occupation and even the hydrology of the river system and its inherent problems associated with the installation of the locks.  They've studied the local weather conditions and their effect on the environment and the history of flooding in this area in days gone by.

Each Bookmark Guide has attended an Aussie Host training exercise and each is fully trained in first aid, having each qualified with a Senior First Aid certificate.

Training courses have made them adept at identification and understanding of all the local fauna, including Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, Insects and some of the River's and the wetlands' aquatic life.  No need to be afraid of that snake in the grass as all Guides have been trained in the identification and safe handling of Snakes.
